Today from 18:00-21.00 hrs, the UvA Film Club will host their next screening in HVL/BuzzHouse’s Co-Working Space! This week's film is Night is Short, Walk on Girl (Masaaki Yuasa, 2017), with an introduction by Gia Tue Trinh.
Following a sophomore “black-hair maiden” on her nocturnal journey across Kyoto, “Night is short, Walk on Girl” is a fever dream of kaleidoscopic visuals and amplified sensations. What begins as a university party night hectically unfolds into a series of eccentric events: a shady encounter with a erotic art collector, a drinking duel with an old yakuza boss, an old book auction disguised as a hot pot challenge, an impromptu guerrilla theatre performance, and countless other quirky adventures cramped into one fateful night. Kyoto streets become a big colorful theatre of whimsical coincidences that connect different people together in the most random ways yet make every encounter a destined moment — at least, as the girl believes. What lingers after such a delirious night is not only the riot of animation styles and overstimulated senses, but also the giddy afterglow of a romcom love beginning to bloom.
